Tattooing the Invisible Man: Bodies of Work 1955-1999

Currently available is a massive survey book of Don Ed Hardy's career, beginning with his extensive tattoo flash drawings as a child of ten, on through surf art, printmaking work at the San Francisco Art Institute, into his tattoo career from the mid-1960s to the present day as well as work in a variety of other media. Tattooing the Invisible Man features over 500 full color illustrations of drawings, lithographs, etchings, paintings, photographs, flash, and elaborate tattoos, most never before published. It is a chronicle of a uniquely extreme expression encompassing Asian esthetics, Western art history, surfing, hot rod art, and California Funk. The book will be accompanied by an extensive retrospective exhibit at Track 16 Gallery, 2525 Michigan Avenue (Building C1), Santa Monica CA 90404. The show, featuring even more original works for sale and display, opens November 20, 1999 and will continue into the new year.
